This Art-Deco building on Sauchiehall Street was originally built as the Beresford Hotel for the Empire Exhibition in Glasgow in 1938. The owner was also the architect and he created a cinema-style frontage. Its "modern" architecture was disliked when it was built and the original mustard-coloured stonework with red fins was rather unkindly described as "custard and rhubarb architecture".
Now tastefully redecorated in pristine white and red, the striking façade maintains a link to its thirties heritage in appearance whilst enjoying the benefits of modern weather performance and insulation thanks to Sapa’s latest tilt before turn window suite.
