Blending with the surrounding architecture was the prerequisite for an elegant building at the prestigious Poundbury Village featuring the Dualframe system.

Much of Poundbury Village has areas where commercial and residential buildings sit closely together and the buildings’ designs have to satisfy the demands of both sides. Dualframe was specified for a mixed commercial and residential building that featured Dualframe windows including a number of elegant arched top windows along the ground floor.

Dummy vent frame inserts were incorporated into the windows to achieve the most aesthetically pleasing sightlines for the glazing whilst the overall slim frames of the Dualframe system meant that the interior of the building was still flooded with natural light.

The architecture of Poundbury Village, which is a development of private and social housing intermingled with commercial buildings, is dominated by local and sometimes recycled material and takes inspiration from the rich heritage of Dorset.

Harmony Profiles undertook the project for builders KDJ Slade & Sons and Cornhill Estates.Architect for the project was Porphyrios Associates.

Specialist approach

The Dualframe system offers specifiers the design flexibility of beautiful slim, clean lines and a wide choice of colours. A dual colour option throughout the Dualframe system allows specifers’ designs to come to life as never before without compromising performance or appearance.

Combined with the strength and longevity of aluminium, the Dualframe system has become a first-choice for specifiers in the commercial and residential sectors.

Whether you are looking for a range that offers the flexibility to maintain consistent sightlines or hardware that is designed with security to the fore, we can provide you with choice and top quality solutions.

Built to take the worst of the weather and climatic changes, our systems are equally at home in traditional or contemporary buildings.

These system benefits are combined with European styling and the unrivalled expertise and experience of the Worldwide Sapa Group of companies, to ensure you have the winning combination to rely on at every stage of your project.

Technical Aspects

The Poundbury development combines traditional architecture with modern living and working requirements and the buildings within the village make extensive use of Dorset materials such as stone, slate and render.

The Dualframe system specified for the project allows a real dual colour finish to be achieved which means that both the internal and external faces of the windows can feature different colours in the same hard-wearing and durable finish. For the Poundbury project the external face of the Dualframe windows were finished in Gypsum Bronze which complements the light colour render finish of the building, whilst a conventional white has been used for the internal faces.
